CAPE VERDE : National Federation seeks foreign coach for NT
The Cape Verdean Basketball Federation is in the process of hiring a foreign coach to lead the Senior Men National team (NT). The president of the Federation, Kitana Cabral, is currently in the United States making contacts with the coach, which in his view has some knowledge of Cape Verdean basketball. 'We have been in contact, for some time with a coach in the USA, who knows well some Cape Verdean players, including Ryan Gomes, of the NBA. We have had previous contact with this coach when we were in the Pre-Olympic tournament in Athens, and during this weekend we will have conversations to analyze in details the proposed contract, 'said the President of the Federation, and advancing that the Federation already has a sponsor that will guarantee the presence of the coach in Cape Verde.
However, if the negotiation fails, Kitana Cabral said that they would proceed with plan B, which would be the return of Emanuel Trovoada, or if need be to a plan C, which would be the hiring of a national resident coach.
Cape Verde has already qualified for the AFROBASKET, this August in Libya, due to their third place finish in Angola, and therefore the Federation is already mapping out the plan for participation in the competition. 'We sent the budget to the Secretariat of Sports (DGD), which has confirmed that there is money in the State Budget for this activity, and also to our traditional partners who have expressed interest in being with us once again, for a tournament such as the AFROBASKET. With all of this, I think we are in a good path, 'said the President of the Federation.
To defend the bronze medal won in AFROBASKET 'Angola 2007', the Federation will either hire a foreign coach, or return to call the coach, Emanuel Travoada, who lead the team to the third place finish in Angola, he is currently coaching a team in Angola.
